Gifts to the Arc of Cape
Cod are needed and appreciated to support our programs and members.
Both large and small gifts enable the ARC to continue our mission of
service and support. Below are a few gift examples:
• Cash
• Securities
• Life insurance
Donors to the Arc of Cape Cod may receive tax benefits
for their support. We recommend that you consult a tax professional
for information on how your gift will impact your personal financial
situation. The Arc of Cape Cod
does
not offer tax advice.
Gifts of securities that have been owned for at least one year and have
appreciated are less expensive than cash to donate. When donating securities
to the ARC of Cape Cod, the financial benefit is twofold. The donor
receives a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market
value of the securities while simultaneously avoiding capital gains
taxes on the securities. The gain is the difference between what was
paid for the security and it's current fair market value. In addition,
matching gifts have the ability to double or triple your gift to the
Arc of Cape Cod. Please contact your employer's personnel office for
matching gift firms.
Below is an example of the benefits of a gift of securities:
Twenty years ago Mr. B bought 100 shares of xy stock for one dollar
a share. Over the years xy did well and the stock is now worth a 100
dollars a share for a total of 10,000 dollars. If Mr. B makes a gift
of those securities outright to the ARC of Cape Cod, Mr. B receives
a 10,000 charitable deduction and avoids capital gain taxes. At a capital
gains tax rate of 20% the tax on the gain of $9,900 would be $1,980.
Mr. B will save $3,100 in the 31% tax bracket as a result of the gift
for a total cost of $4,920 for a $10,000 dollar gift. To donate this
type of gift, please contact the
ARC of Cape Cod development office at 508-790-3667 or arcofcapecod@hotmail.com
Please keep in mind that it is also possible to donate to the Arc of
Cape Cod at a future date. You may include the ARC of Cape Cod in your
will as part of your estate plan. Your testamentary gift can perpetuate
your wishes in your name or the name of a loved one. We would be happy
to help you develop the specifics of such a gift.
